Emerging during the vibrant late 1990's - years of many New Zealand breweries (large and small) rediscovering a range of beer styles - the style of the traditional sharp Belgian seasonal ale is crafted with the inclusion of a unique hop.
This "farmhouse" heritage is blended with a new hop from New Zealand and the up front characteristics of craft brewing.
This unique Belgian beer style is highly hopped and exhibits a tart citric finish.
The New Zealand versions typically have an intriguing balance of smooth sweet malts and aromatic hops with a refreshingly significant grapefruit citric aroma.
This style is a beer that one notices - not for the faint of heart.
