Lager brewing as we now refer to it (pure culture yeast, cool fermentation, cold aging, etc.) evolved in the late 1800's. Attempts by some to narrow the options enjoyed in brewing "lagers" have not all worked to enhance variety for the drinker to enjoy.
Many variations of the lager beer theme exist : bock, dark lager, "light" lager, continental European, New World, etc. Consumers in Europe have often flavoured and sweetened their own glass of lager beer - and now a brewery version containing honey is seen
This "honey lager" beer style encompasses many potential variations but the most common would be a mild lager beer that has been lightly primed with premium honey.
The honey lager should contain at least a hint of honey on the aroma, and a touch of sweetness to taste - as with hop varieties, the choice of honey is quite important.
The adherents of this style enjoy the mild natural sweetness and the clean drinkability offered by this modern alternative lager style. 1045
